Annual Study Weekend 2024 – report

…And all too soon the IAML (UK & Irl) ASW 2024 is over… and what a weekend it was! We (re)discovered just what a musical city Leeds is through a new book edited by Lashua, Spracklen, Ross and Thompson: “Popular Music in Leeds” published by Intellect Books; speed dated archival resources; discussed music cataloguing and lending performance sets; considered gender, equality, diversity and inclusion in music library collections and in music competitions; heard about loaning instruments as well as books in public libraries; discovered how to uncover hidden collections and experienced personal music librarianship journeys.

We even had time to take in the musical sights of Leeds at the Brotherton Gallery (University of Leeds), Leeds Central Library, Leeds Conservatoire and had the chance to tour Leeds Cathedral… and the weather was kind to us too!

I hope those who attended like me learnt something new and at least one or two things to try out in our own libraries. Thank you to all who attended, presented, discussed and contributed to such an inspiring, thought provoking, stimulating weekend but especially to the Events and Training Committee who always do such an excellent job in putting on this event. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did… see you all next year…

Janet Di Franco (IAML (UK & Irl) President).
