Despite our hopes of running an in-person Annual Study Weekend in Leeds in April 2021 (already postponed from April 2020), we have reluctantly had to take the decision to cancel the in-person 2021 ASW and instead offer a "virtual" event over Zoom. Further details about speakers, format, and so on will be published in due course, as will a call for papers, so if you have something interesting to offer and would like to present your work at the 2021 ASW, please come forward!
While it may seem early to cancel the Leeds event, we had to take account of (1) clauses in the Leeds contract that would have made us liable for an increasing percentage of the quoted conference fee the later we decided to cancel; and (2) the UK government's current advice on conferences and similar events, which notes that conferences of more than 30 people will not be allowed between October 2020 and March 2021 (and possibly longer).
IAML (UK & Irl) is, of course, not alone in moving to an online event format. The Music Library Association in the United States, for example, has likewise recently announced that its 2021 annual meeting, planned this time with the Theatre Library Association, will also be fully virtual: http://blog.musiclibraryassoc.org/mla-tla-2021-meeting-to-be-all-virtual/
We still hope that the April 2022 ASW, planned to take place in Oxford, will be able to go ahead as an in-person event.
