The trying Dutchman: Herman van Dÿk and amateur music in Halifax

Presented by Geoff Thomason, formerly Royal Northern College of Music

Abstract: Herman van Dÿk (1865-1940) was a Dutch musician who settled in Halifax in the 1890s. His large collection of papers, now held by Calderdale Archives in the new library in Halifax, give a fascinating glimpse into the world of a jobbing musician in the world of amateur music making in a northern town in the early 20th century.
