Westminster Music Library is teaming up with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for ‘Behind the Lines’, a large-scale programme of musical activities focusing on British composers and music of the First World War. Taking place across the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for 12 months starting in September 2013, a number of outreach events will commemorate the centenary of World War I in 2014 by focusing on composers such as Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Butterworth, Bliss and Holst.
The RPO will present interactive workshops and creative projects designed for adults, families and students at Westminster Music Library and participating schools through its ‘RPO resound’ community and education programme. ‘Behind the Lines’, which is funded by Arts Council England, is a very special opportunity for local communities to engage with Westminster Music Library, its collections and world-class musicians from the orchestra to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
